Fundraising for the New Bluff Parklet
With our design in approvals with the county, we have shifted our focus to fundraising for the new garden.

We are particularly excited about our proposed Esplanade Bluff Garden located between Knob Hill and Avenue A. This garden will:
  • be a native plant butterfly garden with beautiful seating areas overlooking the Pacific.
  • provide an island of habitat that will connect the breeding butterfly habitat throughout the South Bay.
  • incorporate new landscaping that will enable visitors to enjoy the garden and ocean views with a pathway and seating.
The estimated cost of installing the garden and hardscape is approximately $43,000. We have applied for two grants that we hope will provide starter funds for the project, but we will need to reach out to our supporters to bridge the gap. Will you help us raise funds to transform this parkland?

Exploring Community Garden Opportunities in Redondo Beach
Together with the Garden of Guadalupe, SBPC is working on securing land for this much-needed community resource.

SBPC's Vice President, Barbara Epstein has taken on this new project to bring a community garden to Redondo Beach. She's been speaking with city staff and the city council to identify possible locations for this pilot garden. Many neighboring cities such as Hermosa Beach, Torrance and Long Beach have thriving community gardens, and we are excited to bring one to RB. Brianna Egan, who has been working on the Garden of Guadalupe in South Redondo Beach, will also be joining our sub-committee. If you are in the area, stop by their thriving garden in the city right of way, and reach out if you have any ideas for a possible location.

Just a Reminder...
With covid-19, beach attendance is up 40% and so is beach trash.

We know our supporters are conscious patrons of our local beaches, so it goes without saying. But we wanted to call attention to the increase in litter along the South Bay beaches as a result of increased attendance. At a time when we need nature and the outdoors more than ever, "leave no trace" means take your trash with you, and maybe even take your beach neighbor's trash too.

Kids Craft: Seed Bombs
In preparation for fall planting season (which is around the corner!)
Fall seed planting season will here before you know it. Making a few batches before then will ensure you have plenty on hand when the autumn months roll around. Use these little "seed bombs" to spread seeds in your own yard, gift them to friends or neighbors, or tossing a few on the vacant lot down the street! Make sure the seeds you select are native to our area.
